Terrifying Night for Medford Family: Masked Intruder Holds Them at Gunpoint to Open Safe
Beyond the pandemic, another growing concern for Chinese communities in Boston is the rising trend of home invasions and robberies.

No.1 Medford Family Held Hostage
On March 4th, Medford police reported a shocking home invasion case, warning residents about home safety and seeking public assistance with investigation leads.

The crime occurred in broad daylight around 6:30 PM last Tuesday. The victim was cleaning her backyard near Fellsway West when the intruder forced her inside at gunpoint.
The armed suspect made the female homeowner tie up another male victim with rope, then held a gun to her head demanding she open the upstairs safe. After emptying the safe, the intruder tied her up and fled.

According to victims, the suspect was a masked male, approximately 5'8" to 5'10" tall, wearing a ski mask that only revealed his eyes.
Police haven't determined whether the Fellsway West family was specifically targeted or randomly chosen. Witnesses can call 781-395-1212 with information.

No.2 Alarming Rise in Home Invasions
The nationwide surge in burglaries and home invasions has significantly impacted Massachusetts and the Boston area.
In January, Malden police arrested one of two suspects connected to a series of home invasions and car thefts in Malden and Wakefield after an extensive manhunt and car chase.

Two weeks ago, thieves smashed windows at a Wayland dealership, stealing two Lamborghini Urus SUVs. The broken glass triggered alarms, leading to two arrests. Hours later, both vehicles crashed in Malden resulting in another arrest.

Since last May, businesses in Brookline, Boston, Stoneham, Belmont and Burlington have suffered repeated break-ins by a duo who entered through windows after closing. This team has since been apprehended.

In October 2019, Lowell homeowners were tied up and pistol-whipped by gunmen posing as police. They were only rescued after screaming for help when the intruders left.

In late 2018, a "Sunset Burglar" hit at least 22 Quincy homes during evening rush hours, using various entry methods from window smashing to roof climbing. Some front doors were kicked in half.
Chinese households often become targets nationwide due to tendencies to keep cash and valuables at home.

So how can you reduce your risk of home invasion?
