Vienna, VA, October 03, 2009 Tony remembers celebrating the August Moon Festival with his sisters when he was growing up in Hong Kong. Visits from family and friends were exciting and eating the sweet moon cakes was the best part of the day! The one thing Tony remembers is lighting candles in the paper lanterns and walking with his sisters around the block. What fun it was in the early dusk to see the glow in the lanterns and to walk alone without his parents!
August Moon cakes are a special treat for Sue! She looks forward to the delicacy every year and chuckles to herself when she remembers how she got into trouble when she was five years old and growing up in Beijing. Sue's favorite type of moon cake was the type filed with nuts and honey. Being the smart girl she was at five years old, she took all the moon cakes out of all the boxes one early morning when her parents were still asleep. Then she proceeded to break open all the moon cakes, looking for her favorite filling! Her parents were not so happy to find her in the kitchen with a dozen crumbled moon cakes, but the happy smile on Sue’s face brushed away their anger.
